Thymosin Alpha-1 Dosage Used in Studies

These are study plans, not a personal dose for you.

Thymosin alpha-1 dosage changed with the illness

Researchers made Thymosin alpha-1 to copy a natural protein. They then tested different amounts for different illnesses. Hepatitis studies often used 1.6 mg in two skin shots each week [20].

Sepsis studies used the same 1.6 mg more often. Patients got the drug twice daily for 5 days, then daily for 2 days [6]. Cancer studies didn’t all use one plan.

A flu-shot study used 900 micrograms twice weekly for 4 weeks [18]. A microgram is one-thousandth of a milligram. Studies behind approvals used shots because your stomach breaks down the protein. These amounts aren’t a plan for you.

Five study plans used these amounts

Researchers used five main study plans. They don’t tell you what fits your health. They only show what each study tested.

 1. Hepatitis B and C: 1.6 mg in two skin shots each week for 6 months [12][13][14].
 2. Severe sepsis: 1.6 mg in a skin shot twice daily for 5 days. Then patients got 1.6 mg once daily for 2 days [6].
 3. Severe COVID-19: 1.6 mg in one skin shot each day. Earlier use was linked with fewer deaths [8][9].
 4. Flu shot study in 1989: 900 micrograms in two skin shots each week for 4 weeks [18].
 5. Care after a transplant in 2010: 1.6 mg in two skin shots each week [19].

Study amounts covered a wide range

Study amounts ranged from 900 micrograms to 16 mg in skin shots. A microgram is one-thousandth of a milligram. For lasting illness, researchers most often used 1.6 mg twice weekly [20].

Early cancer studies tried the higher amounts. Up to 16 mg, no problem made researchers set a lower dose limit. That doesn’t prove the amount is safe for everyone.

The Zadaxin label uses 1.6 mg as its usual amount. Later studies used that amount for comparison. This range isn’t your dose plan and can’t weigh your health risks for you.

Hospital studies used the dose more often during illness

People searching thymosin alpha 1 dosage when sick may find hospital study plans. Sepsis and COVID-19 studies gave doses more often than hepatitis studies. In one sepsis study, patients got 1.6 mg in a skin shot twice daily for 5 days.

They then got the drug once daily for 2 days, for 7 days in all [6]. Liu’s 2020 Wuhan COVID-19 study used 1.6 mg in one skin shot each day [8]. Sun’s 2021 critical-COVID-19 study used daily shots too. Earlier use was linked with a better result [9].

Doctors watched these very sick patients in a hospital. The plans tell you what researchers did. They don’t tell you how to treat a sudden illness at home. Your own risks weren’t weighed in those studies.

Study care lasted days, weeks or months

Hepatitis B and C studies often ran for 6 months [12][14]. One sepsis plan ran for 7 days [6]. The flu-shot plan ran for 4 weeks [18].

Perruccio’s transplant study continued while people healed [19]. Doctors don’t have one study-backed time span for other uses. These periods only tell you how long each study ran. They don’t set your course of care.

The drug leaves blood fast, but its effect lasts

Half-life means how long half the drug stays in your blood. It’s about 2 hours after a skin shot. Billich’s 2001 drug review reports that finding in healthy adults [20].

The effect on immune cells can last 48–72 hours. That helps explain why hepatitis studies used twice-weekly shots. Lab work found Thymosin alpha-1 used two cell message spots, numbered 9 and 2 [4][5].

Those spots wake guide cells, which then call other defenses into action. Those later steps can outlast the drug in your blood.

A 2025 lab study tested a slow-release form. Hu’s team hoped it could make shots less frequent. The work used a dish, not people [24]. That test gives no answer about safety for you.

Most studies gave a shot under the skin

Every study used for an approval gave the drug in a skin shot [20]. A few early studies put it into a vein. Some old forms used a shot into muscle.

Those ways aren’t usual in the main studies. Researchers also tested a form taken by mouth. Little reached the blood because the stomach broke it down. You won’t find pill use in the main results.

Thymosin Alpha-1 shots went into the belly or thigh

The man-made drug comes as a dry powder. Staff mixed it with liquid before the shot. The Zadaxin label says to use the mixed drug soon [20].

Most studies used skin shots in the belly or thigh. Brief pain and redness there were the most common problems. Trained medical staff would give your exact mixing and shot steps. These broad results can’t do that.

Studies didn’t favor morning or night

Most studies didn’t tie a shot to morning or night [20]. Researchers chose twice-weekly care because the immune effect outlasts your blood level. The sepsis study gave shots twice each day across five days [6].

That means two shots each day. Researchers wanted the immune help to continue while your system was very weak. No study here shows one time works best for you.
